A 57-year-old man was fatally shot following an argument with a neighbor at an RV storage lot in San Mateo on Sunday, police said.

At 11:38 a.m., San Mateo police responded to the area of Fashion Island Boulevard and South Norfolk Street after a man called police stating he shot his neighbor in the chest, police said.

Officers arrived and found the victim, whose identity wasn’t immediately available, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He would later die from his injuries at a local trauma center, police said.

Police determined the 57-year-old man who died and his neighbor, identified as 57-year-old Allen Carl Runchey, both reside in mobile homes at the location, knew each other and got into an argument before the shooting. The motive for the shooting, however, remains under investigation, police said. Runchey was arrested on a homicide charge and for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

“Witnesses are still being interviewed and the investigation is ongoing,” police said.
