Pedestrian fatally struck by alleged drunk driver in Millbrae

A pedestrian was fatally struck by an alleged drunken driver in Millbrae Monday night, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

The collision occurred in the 100 block of South El Camino Real about 9:42 p.m., the sheriff’s office said. The pedestrian’s identity wasn’t immediately known.

The sheriff’s office said the preliminary investigation “shows the pedestrian was walking across El Camino Real, outside of a crosswalk, when he was struck by a Honda.” The pedestrian was transported to San Francisco General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver, Carina Fuentes Chavez, 29, who deputies say “displayed objective signs of alcohol intoxication,” was arrested for DUI after undergoing field sobriety tests. She was booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility.
