Redwood City: Arrest made in assault at Wine Bar

A 30-year-old man was arrested in connection with a fight that left a man unconscious at the Wine Bar in Redwood City, police said.

Aldo Medinavalenzuela was taken into custody on Friday and subsequently booked into San Mateo County Jail, according to the Redwood City Police Department.

At about 2:18 a.m. on Monday, March 15, police responded to the Wine Bar at 840 Brewster Ave. on a report of a fight and found the the victim unconscious with head injuries.

“Witnesses reported the victim had been assaulted by another group of male subjects that had been drinking in the bar,” police said. “The witnesses told police the victim had been punched and fell to the ground. While on the ground the suspects continued to punch and kick the victim.”

The suspects fled the area in several different vehicles and directions. The victim was transported to the hospital with major non-life threatening injuries, police said.

Video surveillance from a nearby business helped to identify Medinavalenzuela as a suspect. Medinavalenzuela was seen fleeing the assault in a red Chevy Camaro. Detectives conducted surveillance at his residence. On Friday, Medinavalenzuela was seen leaving his home in the Camaro. Police initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and took him into custody.
