An unlicensed 16-year-old boy was arrested for possession of illegal firearms following a traffic stop in Redwood City on Wednesday, April 21, police said.

The boy was known to be unlicensed and on juvenile probation when detectives from the Redwood City Police Department’s Street Crimes Suppression Team pulled him over in a red Tacoma at Hilton and Cassia streets at about 5 p.m., police said.

A search of the vehicle uncovered marijuana and a .45 caliber round of ammunition, and a subsequent search of his residence led to the seizure of a Glock 9 mm unregistered pistol and extended large capacity drum magazine, an unregistered rifle, shotgun, various amounts of ammunition and sales and packaging indicating the juvenile was involved in marijuana sales, police said.

The juvenile, who wasn’t identified because he is a minor, was released to the custody of his mother.
