San Carlos has installed two dismount bicycle areas along Cedar Street approaching Arroyo Avenue, which aim to provide designated spaces for cyclists to dismount and walk their bicycles toward an intersection.
The dismount areas aim to minimize conflicts between vehicles, pedestrians and bicyclists crossing Arroyo Street along Cedar Street, the city said.
“Rubber curb ramps will be provided to allow cyclists to get up to the sidewalk,” the city said. “These dismount areas are separate from the vehicle travel lanes and buffered by rubberized curbs for safety.”
The dismount areas were requested by the bicycle community as one part of the Pedestrian Enhancement at Arroyo-Cedar and Hemlock-Orange Pathway Project. For more on that project, click here.
