A local gastropub and an entertainment center providing immersive escape rooms are the eighth and ninth openings at Hillsdale Shopping Center of 2021.
The Refuge has opened its third Bay Area location at the shopping center at Sixty 31st Ave. in San Mateo, offering its signature thick-cut pastrami sandwiches, burgers and Belgian beers. The eatery opens Sunday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday and Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Also open now is Red Door Escape Room, a fully immersive entertainment experience that challenge guests to attempt daring escapes from prison, an enchanted forest, a mysterious carnival range, a mad scientist’s lab, a subconscious dream world and more. Open daily from 10 a.m. to midnight, the center offers events for groups as few as two people, as well as birthday and corporate event options.
Other businesses recently welcomed to the shopping center are Philz Coffee, Dental 360, JINS Eyewear, Jamba and Carbon Health. Visit the shopping center’s website for a full listing of shopping, dining and entertainment options.
“The latest openings come as the shopping center returns to pre-pandemic shopping levels, with visitors exploring new offerings at the center’s wifi-friendly Dining Terrace and enjoying sunshine in the open-air North Block Plaza, featuring some of the Peninsula’s most sought-after shops and restaurants, outdoor seating, open space for events, ambient lighting for evening activities, and a signature fountain,” according to the shopping center. “Several late summer events are in the planning stages at Hillsdale, with more information to come in the weeks ahead.”
