Atherton man offers up backyard pool to Olympic swimmers during pandemic

During the pandemic, an Atherton man offered up his 25-yard backyard pool to enable Stanford and Olympic swimmers Katie Ledecky and Simone Manuel to continue to train, NBC Bay Area reported Tuesday.

Tod Spieker, who was an all-american swimmer at UCLA, received a call from his neighbor, a former Stanford swimming coach, asking to use the pool at a time when pools were shut down due to COVID-19. Ledecky and Manuel “took him up on the offer training in his backyard for three months with their coach,” the news station reported.
