Annual tribute to honor fallen public safety heroes

Countywide tribute to fallen public safety heroes set for Belmont

in Community

The 19th Annual San Mateo County Public Safety Memorial Service annual, organized by Redwood City Fire Deputy Chief Greg Da Cunha, is set to take place Sunday at the Cunningham Memorial Chapel at Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont.

The community is invited to attend the non-denominational service, which will start at 10 a.m. at the university at 1500 Ralston Ave., according to Redwood City officials.

“This memorial tribute is a Countywide way to recognize those public safety professionals who have passed and honor those who selflessly serve the public every day,” officials said.

Cunha’s personal interest in organizing the formal tribute stems from the loss of Firefighter Matt Smith, his friend and coworker who died in the line of duty in 2001.
