A 17-year-old girl was arrested on suspicion of possessing a gun among other charges following a solo vehicle crash in San Mateo early today, police said.

At 3:45 a.m., police officers were called to Roberta Drive on a report of a hit-and-run collision and learned that a male and female fled the disabled vehicle on foot, only to return moments later. A San Mateo police officer who arrived on the scene saw the 17-year-old girl walking away from the passenger side of the vehicle with an object in her hand, police said.

The girl ran off but the officer maneuvered his patrol vehicle to block her path of travel and she was detained without incident, police said.

“In the area where she was detained, officers located an unregistered Glock pistol with a loaded magazine under a blanket belonging to the juvenile,” police said.

She was arrested for gun possession and resisting, delaying, or obstructing an officer and was booked into Hillcrest Juvenile Hall.

The male suspect was not located.
