Redwood City’s Courthouse Square was the setting Feb. 12 for the annual Lunar New Year Celebration, ushering in the Year of the Tiger with displays of drumming, the martial arts, dancing and a variety of other aspects of Chinese culture.
Crowds gathered to watch performances by Orion Alternative Elementary School Mandarin Immersion and Playthrive After School, along with California kung fu and tai chi, leading up to the grand finale, the arrival of Lion Dancers, attired in colorful costumes and undulating to the beat of the festive music. Meanwhile, inside the San Mateo County History Museum, there were lots of art and educational activities for kids.
