Auto Vino, formerly located in Menlo Park, is bringing luxury car storage, wine production and tasting, outdoor dining and event space to Industrial Road in San Carlos.

On Monday, the San Carlos Planning Commission approved a conditional use permit for the business at 380 Industrial Road, just south of the building formerly occupied by Orchard Hardware Supply.

Most of the interior of the 14,740 square foot building, which was previously used for warehouse storage and manufacturing, will be used to store exotic cars. But there will also be space to produce, store and taste wine, as well as space to host indoor events for up to 35-40 people.

In the parking lot, an outdoor dining area enclosed by wine barrel planters will contain two trailers, a vintage food bus and a pizza oven. Tables and chairs in the middle of the space will provide guests a sweet spot to sit and dine.

The approved business hours are from 9-5 Mondays through Fridays and noon-4 Saturdays and Sundays. Corporate and private events will be planned Mondays through Fridays from 6-9, and events will “completely shut down” by 10 p.m., according to the business.

The outdoor dining area will take up about 13 of the 71 available parking spaces at the site.

The business received a warm welcome from commissioners and neighbors alike.

Phil GiurlaniĀ told the commission he started Auto Vino 15 years ago in Menlo Park, and had to move due to Facebook’s expansion in the area.

“We’ve been looking for a new space for four or five years now,” GiurlaniĀ said. “Came across this, and I think we lucked out with the perfect location. We’re excited to get open and start meeting our neighbors and start doing business in San Carlos.”
