Juvenile arrested in non-injury shooting near Carlmont H.S.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested in connection with a non-injury shooting near Carlmont High in Belmont on Friday, police said.

The shooting occurred at about 2 p.m. in the 1200 block of Valerga Drive. The incident prompted the lockdown of the Carlmont High campus.

During an investigation, Belmont police identified the suspect and safely took him into custody Saturday night, according to Belmont police. The suspect, who isn’t being identified because he is a minor, was booked on charges of discharging a firearm into an inhabited dwelling; assault with a firearm; carrying a concealed firearm in a vehicle; and possessing a firearm with an altered serial number, police said.

Belmont police worked with school staff and, “as of this moment, have determined there is no indication Carlmont High School was at all involved with this incident.”
