A monthlong celebration of art across San Mateo County will culminate with a free celebration at San Mateo's Central Park filled with dance, music, spoken poetry theater and more on Saturday, Aug. 27. A key component of the monthlong event, which is presented by the San Mateo County Office of Arts and Culture and the Arts Commission, is the creation of a mural commemorating San Mateo sculptor Ruth Waters and her contributions to the art community. The mural, which will be 8 feet tall and 8 feet wide, will be created collaboratively by community members with the aim of building "community bonding and social belonging through a shared experience of self-expression," the County said. "It will be completed by individuals who add their voices about what art means to them in 256 smaller squares created at art events throughout the county during August 2022," the County said. "The final mural will be assembled and presented at the August 27 event in San Mateo’s Central Park. The mural will be shown at multiple venues throughout the county during the coming year."
