Memorial services were held on Jan. 3 at the Fox Theatre for renowned local sportscaster and author Pete Liebengood. The service was led by his eldest son, Kelly, and many spoke of Liebengood’s talents, passions and humor.
The community has been in mourning since Liebengood’s death on Dec. 22. He was 73. The Redwood City resident worked at KRON, San Francisco and KCRA, Sacramento and enjoyed a long career as a play-by-play contributor for ESPN. He authored the novels “Class of ’62,” “Accidental Droning,” and “Honeyball.”
He is survived by his wife Alicia Aguirre, former mayor and current City Councilmember of Redwood City. Read here for a profile of Pete from Climate Magazine’s July 2017 issue.
