There’s nothing like holiday music to get you in the spirit of the season and the newly released “Home, Hope & Holidays” album from Broadway by the Bay is just the ticket.
Broadway by the Bay’s first-ever holiday album features 21 seasonal favorites performed by more than 65 alumni artists and musicians from the largest community musical theatre company between San Francisco and San Jose. In a sign of the COVID-19 times, the album was recorded from artists’ homes, and mixed remotely, in order to adhere to local health protocols.
According to the theatre company, the resulting album “is a truly inspiring and joyous collection of holiday music that embodies the artistry, generosity and collaboration that are the hallmarks of Broadway by the Bay.”
With Broadway by the Bay’s productions paused due to the pandemic—taking a significant toll on the community theatre industry—the theatre company sought another way to engage its artists via the album. Performers on the holiday music celebration range from local artists to Broadway stars.
“We’ve wanted to do a holiday album for quite a while, but the usual production schedule made it very difficult to do. This year, thanks to this extended ‘intermission,’ we were able to find that time, said Producer Alicia Jeffrey, also the executive artistic director of Broadway by the Bay. “We wanted to bring joy to our audiences, and engage our incredible community of artists. It has been four months of intense collaboration, but I could not be more proud of the outcome. It has truly been a gift.”
In addition to Jeffrey, who also served as a music director on the project, Resident Music Director Sean Kana and collaborator and vocal director Daniel Lloyd Pias also worked on the album. Lane Sanders mixed and mastered it, while Kelly James Tighe, who frequently designs sets for Broadway by the Bay, created the album’s artwork.
