After being postponed due to weather last week, an emergency response drill that will shut down the Tom Lantos Tunnels for seven hours is now set to begin at 9 p.m. Wednesday and conclude Thursday at 4 a.m., according to Caltrans.
During the exercise, weather permitting, the tunnels will become the site of “fire simulations, crash simulations and smoke,” according to Caltrans.
“The emergency management exercise will be a coordinated effort including the CHP, San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, Pacifica Fire and Police Departments, California Office of Emergency Services, Cal-Fire and other first responders,” according to the Sheriff’s Office.
CHP will be on scene to help detour motorists, with those coming from Pacifica asked to head north on SR-1 to connect with southbound I-280, and those coming from Half Moon Bay to head east on SR-92 onto northbound I-280.
