A mountain lion attacked a dog at a home in Woodside Wednesday night, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office received a call about 9:45 p.m. about the attack that occurred at a property on Raymundo Drive. A homeowner was alerted to the sound of a commotion on their lawn, according to Sheriff’s Det. Rosemerry Blankswade. The mountain lion had to climb a 6-foot deer fence to get onto the property prior to attacking the dog.
One of the dog’s owners got into her car, drove onto the lawn and started honking at the mountain lion to scare it off, ultimately saving her dog’s life, Blankswade said.
TheĀ dog was take to a veterinarian and is expected to make a full recovery from its injuries.
“We are working with the California Dept. of Fish and Wildlife to monitor this situation, but we do believe this was an isolated incident,” Blankswade said.
