Redwood City police are searching for an arson suspect after an accelerant was used to set fire to a car owned by an Asian man with disabilities on Saturday.
The victim’s sister told ABC7 News her brother is developmentally disabled, recently got a job at Safeway and needed to his car to get to work. She believes the crime could be racially-motivated. Redwood City police said the investigation remains in its early stages, adding “there is no information to indicate that this incident was associated to a hate crime.”
Authorities responded to the vehicle fire in the alley behind 3752 Rolison Road at about 11:24 p.m. The fire was quickly extinguished, and video collected during the initial investigation showed someone leaving the area before the fire was reported, according to police. Police released a still image of a person riding his bicycle southbound on Rolison toward Marsh Road in the hope that members of the public can help identify him.
Anyone with information can contact Detective Sgt. Nick Perna at 650-780-7672 or Fire Marshall Gareth Harris at 650-780-7400.
