The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a second possible mountain lion attack on a dog in just over a week within the County, after a pooch went missing in Portola Valley Thursday night.
Around 9 p.m. Thursday, the sheriff’s office received report of a medium-sized dog possibly being attacked in the area of Alpine Road and Interstate Highway 280.
“When the resident heard her dog barking, she went outside and saw a mountain lion near her property,” the sheriff’s office said. “Unfortunately, her dog is now missing and the exact details regarding the disappearance are not clear.”
On Wednesday, March 17, a mountain lion attacked a dog on a private property on Raymundo Drive in Woodside. One of the dog’s owners got into her car, drove onto the lawn and started honking at the mountain lion to scare it off, ultimately saving her dog’s life, the sheriff’s office said. The dog was expected to make a full recovery from its injuries.
