The Government Center Parking Structure in Redwood City at the corner of Veteran Boulevard and Middlefield Road, which is set to open in the fall, will be outfitted with 124 electric vehicle charging ports thanks to a $248,000 contribution by Peninsula Clean Energy (PCE).
“The 124 EV charging ports will be available to county employees – and may in the future also be available to the public on evenings and weekends,” according to PCE.
The parking structure, located on the former jury parking lot, will add 1,022 additional parking stalls over seven levels. Its infrastructure will be able to accommodate several hundred more EV charging ports beyond those funded by PCE.
“With the solar panels, the Parking Structure will operate at Net Zero Energy with excess energy generation used to offset energy usage at other County Government Center facilities,” according to the County.
PCE said funding for the 124 ports came from its EV Ready program, which aims to install 3,500 charging ports in San Mateo County over the next four years.
