Redwood City is gearing up to celebrate National Night Out Tues., Aug. 3 between 5-8 p.m. at community building events throughout the city.
The annual nationwide event is designed to encourage people “to develop camaraderie with fellow neighbors in their community,” meet their local first responders and build a connection with them to promote “a true sense of community and establish a safer place to live,” according to the Redwood City Police Department.
Redwood City neighborhoods including Centennial, Palm Park, Redwood Village and Stambaugh/Heller have confirmed their participation this year.
The Palm Park and Stambaugh/Heller Neighborhood Associations are teaming up to host a free COVID-19 vaccination clinic with the San Mateo Health Department prior to their National Night Out event. The COVID-19 clinic will open Tues., Aug. 3 from 1-4 p.m. (first dose/Pfizer) at Jardín de Niños Park, Chestnut and Middlefield Rd. in Redwood City. Registration is encouraged at myturn.ca.gov but walk-ups are also welcome. The second Pfizer dose will be administered Tues., Aug. 24 from 1-4 p.m. at the same location.
As for the Palm Park and Stambaugh/Heller Neighborhood Associations’ National Night Out event Tuesday, it will be held from 4-6 p.m. at Jardín de Niños Park and will feature music and vaccine info from a bilingual doctor, a raffle of gift cards and other prizes at 4 p.m., another raffle by the Redwood City Police Department to win a boys and girls bike at 5:30 p.m. and giveaways of free disposable/cloth masks and hand sanitizer.
The police department recommends touching base with local neighborhood association leadership for details about the other aforementioned participating neighborhoods’ events. Redwood City is also honoring the original spirit of National Night Out by encouraging residents to turn on their porch lights Tuesday night and mingle with neighbors.
