A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder for allegedly striking a female victim with his vehicle on purpose in the parking lot of a Starbucks in Millbrae early Monday, and then “running her over several times more,” according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim was transported to San Francisco General Hospital to undergo surgery and remains in grave and critical condition due to the vicious attack, which occurred about 12:21 a.m. at 513 Broadway.

Deputies who responded to the scene located the unresponsive female lying face down in the parking lot. The suspect vehicle had fled by the time of their arrival.

Surveillance camera footage obtained from local businesses showed a gray BMW SUV hitting the victim at a high rate of speed and then running her over several more times, the Sheriff’s Office said.

A patrol deputy would later locate a BMW SUV matching the description of the suspect vehicle parked in front of a home on Harry Place. The car had damage consistent with a recent collision.

Deputies contacted Garrett Young, 23, at the residence, interviewed him and determined he was responsible for the incident in front of Starbucks.

Based on interviews and evidence gathered, detectives learned that Young purposely struck the victim and his actions were premeditated,” the Sheriff’s Office said.

Young was placed under arrest and booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility.
