A suspected trespasser climbed a ladder onto the rooftop of a San Carlos building while fleeing sheriff’s deputies early Monday. But he was captured shortly thereafter after he fell into the business through a vent he pried open, according to San Mateo County Sheriff’s Deputies.
Brian Thompson, 46, was booked into jail on misdemeanor charges of trespassing, vandalism, obstructing police and possession of stolen property in connection with the incident that occurred about 2 a.m. Monday, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies responded to the 1100 block of Walnut St. on the report of a subject attempting to enter a home on the block and located Thompson riding a bicycle on a nearby street. Thompson fled after deputies attempted to stop him, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Deputies followed Thompson to a business on the 1000 Block of American Street, where Thompson was seen climbing a ladder to the roof of a business. A Sheriff’s Office drone was deployed to locate him. Thompson reportedly pried open a vent on the rooftop and fell into the business. Deputies entered and found him hiding in a crawl space.
“Thompson was placed under arrest and later given treatment for the injuries he sustained during the fall from the roof,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
