The Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) is offering $7 million in grants to help offset a portion of the cost of purchasing and installing new publicly available electric vehicle charging stations throughout the Bay Area, including at workplaces, destinations, transit parking locations, along transportation corridors and at multi-unit dwelling facilities. Projects installing electric vehicle charging at multi-unit dwellings, specifically affordable and below market rate housing sites, as well as projects located in environmental justice communities, will be prioritized for funding, officials said. Applications will be accepted until March 1, 2022, at 5 p.m. Pacific time.
“Public agencies and private businesses can recoup up to 85 percent of the cost” of installing and operating the charging stations under the so-called “Charge!” program.
“The goal of the Charge! program is to help build a charging network able to support the Bay Area’s electric vehicle adoption goals of 90 percent of the overall vehicle fleet by 2050,” according to BAAQMD. Jack Broadbent, executive officer of the Air District, added, “More charging stations in key locations will quicken the energy transition and make buying an electric vehicle the smarter option for Bay Area residents.”
