Redwood City Mayor Giselle Hale and city representatives will participate in a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the completed Middlefield Road Streetscape Project on Monday, Feb. 7.
The event will take place at 2 p.m. at the corner of Middlefield Road and Cassia Street, the city said.
The Middlefield Project involved constructing underground facilities for telecommunication lines and equipment, and removal of overhead telecommunication lines and utility poles. It also included streetscape improvements such as replacing sidewalks and adding accessible curb ramps, crosswalks, protected bicycle lanes, street lights, street trees, and stormwater treatment on Middlefield Road between Maple Street and Woodside Road.
“The Middlefield Project, a much-awaited infrastructure project focused on road improvements on Middlefield Road, has been completed,” according to the city. “The project increases pedestrian and bicycle safety and mobility by reconfiguring the roadway to provide wider sidewalks, protected bicycle lanes, street trees, pedestrian lighting, benches and green infrastructure. Upon completion, it creates an attractive gateway to Downtown Redwood City and better connects residents to the goods and services in Downtown.”
