The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office broke ground Thursday on what will become its new headquarters in Redwood City, which will become the Sheriff’s new state-of-the-art headquarters.
The $50 million project at 330 Bradford St. “completely renovates” the existing 42,000 square foot, more than 60 year-old Old Maguire Facility “by enclosing the fourth floor and constructing a fifth floor,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
Estimated to be completed by April 2023, according to County documents, the renovated building will feature 50,000 square feet of floor space, enabling the relocation of most Sheriff’s Office staff from the Hall of Justice to the new building. The renovated structure will be named the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office John Arrillaga Sr. Headquarters Center. Arrillaga, a prominent Silicon Valley developer who recently died, contributed $25 milion to the project.
“For many years, I have envisioned the potential for decommissioning the Old Magure Correctionall Facility and transforming it into a modern office building for the Sheriff’s Office,” Sheriff Carlos Bolanos said. “This new building will allow the Sheriff’s Office to house our major units and bureaus under one roof, and will allow us to accommodate future growth and to better serve the public as we move forward. This building will also be more convenient and accessible for all those who need our services.”
