There were no known injuries resulting from two unrelated fires in Redwood City Monday morning — including one that occurred at Fair Oaks School and led to the school’s evacuation and closure for the day, fire officials said.
The first incident occurred just before 9 a.m. at a 2-story Victorian style residential home at 1417 Middlefield Road, the Redwood City Fire Department said. Arriving crews found smoke emanating from the home and quickly extinguished the fires, limiting the damage to the first floor and basement. The fire was caused by an improper use of the fireplace, officials said.
The house was not occupied at the time and there were no known displacements.
At about 10:31 a.m. at Fair Oaks School, located at 2950 Fair Oaks Ave., crews responded to find electric wires down and a power pole on fire. The school was temporarily evacuated as a precaution due to the smoke and remained closed for the day due to lack of power to the building. The school’s structure was not damaged.
