Scientific Adventures for Girls (SAfG) and CuriOdyssey are partnering to offer a free, virtual co-ed Family Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math (STEAM) Event on Thursday, May 19 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Elementary students and their parents and/or caregivers are invited to attend the event, during which they’ll discover how ectothermic animals use heat from the environment to stay warm and digest their food. They’ll also engage in short, hands-on activities to make color changing slime that reacts to heat, and explore how insects float on water. Families are also offered the chance to win some impressive raffle prizes.
“In addition, CuriOdyssey will introduce one of their live ectothermic animal ambassadors and families may even meet a slithering friend on the screen,” according to SAfG, a nonprofit working to remove systematic barriers to all girls’ participation in STEM.

“CuriOdyssey is thrilled to be partnering with SAfG for their Family STEAM nights – both organizations inspire a love for science, especially for those furthest from opportunity,” said Aragon Burlingham, executive director of CuriOdyssey, the San Mateo-based children’s museum and zoo.
Family STEAM Nights, according to SAfG, is an opportunity to create a family tradition of doing science together and learn something new.
“It helps parents get more comfortable with science or math themselves and educates them on STEM career opportunities,” the nonprofit said.
Family STEAM Night Events are funded by Sandia National Laboratories.
