Local historian Dee Eva and a group of history-loving friends launched their kayaks onto Redwood Creek for a combination cleanup and history tour. The group explored the importance of the natural deep-water channel and its connected Embarcadero Turning Basin, which contributed to Redwood City’s settlement and early growth by enabling timber ships to call for logs cut from the Peninsula’s rich forests during the 1800s. Eva and her cohort also collected beer cans, plastic wrappers, more than 15 balls of a variety of sizes and colors, and wads of floating trash, all of which could have drifted into San Francisco Bay.
