Climate dominates S.F. Press Club Awards for Bay Area magazines

in Community

Hello, Climate readers!

As editor of Climate, I wanted to let you know that our magazine won 20 out of the 34 prizes for magazines and trade publications presented December 8 at the San Francisco Press Club’s 45th annual Greater Bay Area Journalism Awards.

Climate’s staff and contributors received seven first-place awards and completed four 1-2-3 sweeps in the competition’s 13 editorial and graphics categories. In three other segments, Climate took two out the press club’s three awards.

It was our second strong performance in a row. Last year, the magazine earned 17 awards, including first prize for overall excellence.

According to the press club, the contest received a record 424 entries from newspapers, magazines and digital media. Judges included members of press clubs from around the country.

Perhaps most impressive for Climate was Creative Director Jim Kirkland’s “hat trick,” in which he swept first, second and third place in three categories—cover design, feature layout design and feature photography. Jim also showed he could write, capturing second place for sports features, in which Climate contributor Dan Brown won first and third.

Climate’s recognition this year reflects the excellence of our former editor, Janet McGovern, who retired June 30 and still writes for the publication. All of the stories submitted by Climate were produced during her tenure.

Thanks to all of you for being loyal readers and supporters.  Climate couldn’t exist without you!
