Midpen Open Space celebrates a half-century of preservation

Weather conditions cooled down to tolerable temperatures for the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District’s 50-year anniversary bash at the historic James Johnston House in Half Moon Bay on September 10.  Formed by voters in 1972, Midpen Open Space preserves a greenbelt of more than 65,000 acres throughout the greater Santa Cruz Mountains region.

The event included presentations about wildlife and agriculture, along with tours of the famous home, completed in 1855 and sometimes called the “White House of Half Moon Bay.”
