Seats are filling fast for the 1st Annual Youth Academy, according to the Redwood City Police Department, which is encouraging city residents ages 14 to 17 to sign up for the three-day course that will provide insights into police work.
Students taking part will see a K9 demo and learn more about special ops, patrol techniques, use of force, criminal investigations, job skill training, community outreach and crime scene investigation.
The Academy will run from July 16- 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. To join the program, students must submit an application to the Redwood City Police Department.
The Academy has two central purposes: to help students understand how a police department works, and to increase interaction between law enforcement and youth in the community.
