Redwood City considers new downtown “Transit District”

in Community/Infrastructure

More big changes may be coming to downtown Redwood City. Lindy Chan, the city’s principal planner, on November 1 outlined a proposed redevelopment of the Sequoia Station shopping center and the nearby Caltrain station, at a meeting hosted by the Redwood City Downtown Business Group.

The plans, which would dub the area the city’s “Transit District” (as with the downtown “Theatre District”), include moving and reconfiguring the train station, possibly building railroad overpasses or underpasses and converting the mall for various uses, including housing, offices, stores, car and bike parking and open space.
